My classroom runs on respect. It is my belief that students are willing and eager to learn if they are in an environment where they feel safe to do so. Respect is not a one way street, but a bond between two people, or between a teacher and their students. Having a space with mutual respect lets students know that learning is a process and that they will be supported along the way. Respect is an important requirement for a good learning environment, but so is fun. I got into teaching because my interest in science growing up never aligned with my experience in science class. I want to show students that learning about science is learning about almost every aspect of life. The vast and varying amount of experiences students bring to the classroom should be used to illustrate concepts that they will take with them for the rest of their life.
